Arima General Hospital

Malfunctioning hot water circulation pumps

Located in the heart of Arima, this facility serves as the primary inpatient health care facility in the Borough of Arima and its environs. The hospital will also offer Ambulatory care, Accident and Emergency, Pharmacy/Dispensary, Laboratory/Blood Bank and Mortuary Services.

The Problem

Hot water is vital to the daily operation of every hospital and when it becomes out of commission, it also becomes a matter of safety as the hospital needs to service its 150-bed patient capacity.

The Solution

The PML team assessed that the pumps were not working due to a flooding incident in the motor housing room, which caused water to enter the frame and electrical components.

The motor was rewind, hyper and resistance tested then re-assembled. After installation and final testing, the motor was running at optimal working capacity.

Ministry of Education

Rooftop pump and motor; supply, installation and commissioning

The Ministry of Education has responsibility for the management on all education-related matters in T&T. The Ministry’s head office is comprised of two structures: Tower A, which has sixteen floors that houses its administrative operations and Tower B, a five-storey building that houses the Finance and Accounts Division.

The Problem

Installed on the rooftop, the Armstrong 4200 pump operating at 2880 GPM and 150 PSI needed to be replaced due to normal wear & tire gained from numerous years of operation.

The Solution

The PML team were tasked with the safe removal, supply, installation and commissioning of the new pump and motor.

Commissioning of the pump began with opening the suction line and slowly increasing the drive up to 25% then cracking the discharge line. The process was repeated three or four times, until the drive peaked at 100% with the discharge line simultaneously fully open.

The Problem

The laundry department reported that the washing machine was not operating properly at its full work load and water leaks were noticed.

The Solution

Further assessments, discovered a leak on the spray distribution line and this was also replaced by the changing of the swivel.
